Fall, Change, and the Power of Gratitude

ree

Fall is here, and with it comes crisp mornings, shorter days, and the beauty of shifting colors all around us. While this season can feel magical, for many people it also brings change that can be hard to navigate. One of those challenges is Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), often triggered by the lack of sunlight and the transition into colder months.

I know firsthand what it feels like to slip into that darkness. For a time, the weight of seasonal sadness felt terrifying. But I found something that truly changed my path: persistent, honest gratitude.

Whenever I started to feel myself heading down into sadness, I began listing things in my head that I was truly grateful for. And not just quickly— I made myself pause and feel it. Experience the gratitude. That practice shifted everything.

Some of the things I found myself grateful for:

  • Rain, because it helps our flowers bloom in the summer.

  • Snow, because we need the water and because my husband loves to snowboard.

  • Storms, because they reminded me how safe and cozy my home is.

  • Home itself, because what a gift it is to have a place of peace.

What about you? What are some of the things you are truly, sincerely grateful for?
